Documentary: ‘Being Muslim in the UK’
Summary:
This documentary is about a few people who became
Muslim. The title of this film is; “Welsh, White and Muslim. Omer and Shareen
Williams are married. Omer was a teenager when he became Muslim. Shareen was
already Muslim. Omer’s brother is married to Kate, they are also Muslim, but
both converted. This is rare because most of the time, it’s a mix (one Muslim,
non-Muslim) and they are also white. Shareen goes out with her face covered, to
see what the comments are in Cardiff. Somebody threatens to kill her. Shareen
says it is because religion is on the back seat in the west. Omer left
Christianity to become Muslim out of his own Islam phobia. He found out the
reality was different. But they can notice, their relationships with friends
and family became restrained.

My Opinion:
I don’t believe in a God. I was raised without a
religion so I don’t know how it is to have one. But my parents always taught me
to respect everybody the way they are. I think, in my work as a teacher, you
have to be unprejudiced to do your job correctly. If people want to become
Muslim and they believe that it’s good for them… Who am I to judge those
people? People have to do the things that make them happy. And if becoming a Muslim
is one of them, they should convert. I think it’s a shame the Muslims have
their appearance against them, because of all the things that happen in the
world on behalf of the Muslims. That’s why people are prejudiced about them. I
don’t think that will ever change.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenI don't have a religion either. I do believe there are things out there that none of us can possible fathom. Whether we'll ever find out is the big question.
