This documentary is about a few people who became Muslim. The title of this film is; “Welsh, White and Muslim. Omer and Shareen Williams are married. Omer was a teenager when he became Muslim. Shareen was already Muslim. Omer’s brother is married to Kate, they are also Muslim, but both converted. This is rare because most of the time, it’s a mix (one Muslim, non-Muslim) and they are also white. Shareen goes out with her face covered, to see what the comments are in Cardiff. Somebody threatens to kill her. Shareen says it is because religion is on the back seat in the west. Omer left Christianity to become Muslim out of his own Islam phobia. My Opinion:
I don’t believe in a God. I was raised without a religion so I don’t know how it is to have one. But my parents always taught me to respect everybody the way they are. I think, in my work as a teacher, you have to be unprejudiced to do your job correctly. If people want to become Muslim and they believe that it’s good for them… Who am I to judge those people? People have to do the things that make them happy. And if becoming a Muslim is one of them, they should convert. I think it’s a shame the Muslims have their appearance against them, because of all the things that happen in the world on behalf of the Muslims. That’s why people are prejudiced about them. I don’t think that will ever change.

Express GCSE

The Express: GCSE

Summary:
Ofqual wants to replace the GCSE by “I Levels”. It means that the course work will be abolished in all core exams except science and all end of course exams will be done in the summer, apart from English and mats exams. If students want to re-sit the exams, they’ll have to wait for a year.  A new grade 8 is going to replace A* as the highest grade. They want to make exams harder while providing differentiation between the most able pupils. The National Union of Teachers think that the proposed changes do not reflect “real life”. They think it is not the best way forward.  This will ignore different learning styles and narrow the skills that can be tested through terminal examinations.

My opinion:
I think it is great that education is always developing, but I think this happens too often.  When I look at the things that happen at my own school or all the things they want to change in the Netherlands… I think it is useless and sometimes not feasible. People, who have never worked in a school, often make the decisions. They don’t know a thing about, how everything goes in class. They don’t have a clue about what is possible and what isn’t. The ideas are great but the implementation shows it doesn’t work. I wonder if just changing the name of the grading schedule will make things better.

And I cannot see the word “differentiation”. Yes, it is important to adapt to the ability of a pupil, but if you have 30 pupils in your classroom, and 5 of them have ADHD, 5 have autism and another 5 have a very bad youth because of their parents. How can you differentiate? You just have 2 hands and 1 pair of eyes. The idea is great, but you can’t implement this on your own.

Documentary BBC New Blood Clot

Documentary BBC news: Woman dies of blood clot.

Summary
The family of the woman who died from a blood clot is angry because they misdiagnosed her condition. The Woman had terrible leg pain and went to the doctor. He said it was just a sprain. The family had a history of deep vein thrombosis. So ten days later she died. Post mortem examination found she died of a clot that travelled trough her veins from her leg to her long. One of the daughters says; “This shouldn’t have happened if they diagnosed her right. She would’ve still been here.”

 100 words

My opinion:
I think it’s terrible these mistakes still happen in the medical sector. I think the family is right, if they diagnosed her right she would’ve lived. But I also think that doctors can’t know everything. On the other hand if a doctor knew the history of this family he could’ve known they suffer from the deep vein thrombosis. And he could’ve prevented it. I think this is a difficult issue, because if we make mistakes in our job nobody will be dead in the end. If a doctor makes a mistake, the ending could be death. I understand the family is angry, I would’ve been, but I know everybody makes mistakes, only this time it’s very tragic.

Documentary BBC News Lobbying

Documentary BBC news: Lobbying

Summary:
MP Patrick Mercer Offered a fake firm a Commons security pass. They paid him 4000 pounds to table parliamentary questions. He broke the Commons lobbying rules with this. The fake company, Alistair Andrews Communications, had claimed to lobby on behalf of Fijian Business interest for Fiji to be readmitted to the commonwealth. A clip of Mr Mercer saying he will do it for 1000 pounds a day, is published by Panorama. Mercer admits that he broke the parliamentary rules. He says; In the meantime, to save my party embarrassment, I have resigned the conservative whip and have so informed Sir George Young. He can stay in the commons as independent but is no longer member of the parliamentary party.

124 Words

My opinion:
I think it’s outrageous that an MP who is earning enough money (I guess), is lobbying outside the parliament, to get more money on behalf of himself. And because he is “famous” he asks even a 1000 pounds for a day. I don’t understand that he is still aloud to stay in the parliament as an independent. I think that if you want to lobby on behalf of your own expense, you have to leave the government instantly. If you work for the government you have to work for the people in your country, not only for the money.

Metro: BNP, EDL, PUAF

Metro: BNP met by hundreds of ‘anti-fascists’ at Westminster

Summary:
50 British National Party members and supporters turned out for a march and motorcade outside the houses of parliament. The police stopped this from happening. The English Defence league was holding a number of small events across the country. The Protest group Unite Against Fascism blocked off the BNP march. Some of the rival protesters came to blows. The parents of Rigby (who was stabbed to death) ask to not use their son’s name for their own agenda. The Britons understand that the EDL does not speak for all Britain and the Muslim extremists do not speak for al Muslims. There has been a gathering in Woolwich aimed at calming the tension. The two suspected killers have been taken into custody

121 words

My opinion:
It is terrible what happened to Lee Rigby and I think it’s outrageous how the EDL and the BNP take advantage of it. I understand that the Parents of Rigby don’t want this. I wouldn’t want it if I were in the same situation. It is not where he stood for, so I think the EDL and BNP should show more respect to the murdered soldier. I think it is a good thing that there exists something like a PUAF to fight against these far right parties and that they don’t want anybody to think that all Muslims are bad people. I also think it is a good thing that they organized a gathering to calm the tension, because I understand that there will be a lot of tension among the citizens because of everything that is going on right now.
