Documentary 2: Margaret Thatcher

Margaret Thatcher

Summary:
This documentary is about how Margaret Thatcher became prime minister. Margaret Thatcher was the longest serving prime minister. She served for 11 years. At a younger age her father took her to public meetings, that’s why she developed an interest in politics. She studied to become a lawyer, but at the age of 33 she was elected to work in the government. People believed that the government should help the people from cradle to grave, but Margaret Thatcher wanted to move away from that idea and spend money on what was really necessary. Thatcher was a politician of the ‘no nonsense’ type. She wanted to sweep Britain clean of socialism. In 1975 she became leader of her party and in 1979 she became the prime minister.

My opinion:
I haven’t seen the whole story (just 20 minutes of the first episode), but I really admire Margaret Thatcher for the way how she became prime minister. She worked very hard and knew what she wanted. She wasn’t afraid to voice her opinion. It is not always a good thing, but that took her to where she wanted to be. Even after her ‘right hand man was killed, she just kept going and stood strong. The people didn’t love her, but people were curious about her. I hear bad things about her, but it wasn’t for nothing that she served in the government for 11 years.
